Lateral epicondylitis, also known as tennis elbow, represents a pathological condition of the common extensor muscles at their origin on the lateral humeral epicondyle and is characterised by pain in this area. The age of onset is generally after 30 years of age and most often around 40 years old.
The excessive use of the wrist extensor musculature is clearly associated with development of lateral epicondylitis.
